About Malaysian Institute of Art (MIA)
Founded in 1967 as a non-profit making organization, the Institute has trained thousands of professional artists, designers and musicians for the creative industries in the country. Today, the Institute provides a range of Diploma courses in the field of art, design and music with comprehensive and well designed course contents.
The emphasis is placed on the mastery of creative skills, in-depth inquires, conceptual development, critical thinking and IT knowledge. The Institute makes every effort to integrate IT knowledge and multi-ethnic cultural values into its training programmes to enhance the scope of learning and creative quality of the students.
Malaysian Institute of Art (MIA) endeavours to provide affordable and quality education in the creative arts by providing a conducive environment for the students to develop their creative potentials and strive for artistic excellence. Its aim is to train creative, innovative, confident and self-reliant professional artists, designers and musicians to meet the needs of national development. The Institute is committed to cater for the needs of human resources by providing well trained graduates who will contribute towards the advancement of the creative industry. The Institute is equipped with a team of lecturers who possesses qualifications from local and foreign universities and vast practical creative experiences in their relevant fields. All the courses offered are accredited by Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).
MIA graduates are well sought after by design firms and related industries at home, in Singapore and overseas.
MIA offers various type of scholarship such as the SPM/UEC Academic Achievement Scholarships where students with 9As and above will be given full tuition fees scholarship, students with 8As will obtain a 75% tuition fees scholarship and students with 7A's will be given a 50% tuition fees scholarship. Besides that, 15 full scholarships and 5 half scholarships are also awarded through annual Nationwide Art & Design Competition, 5 full-scholarships through Dong Jiau Zhong and 2 scholarships each through the Sin Chew Education Fund and Nanyang Education Fund.
Financial aid is available for application by deserving or needy students who want to pursue their studies in MIA. The Institute also assists students to apply study loan from PTPTN (Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional) and SOCSO (Social Security Organisation) if they qualify.
MIA has established links with prestigious universities and colleges in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan and China. Through these linkages, MIA graduates may proceed to complete their Degree programmes. The uniqueness of this arrangement enables students to save time and cost to pursue their degrees overseas. It is also a very ideal pathway to obtain a well-balanced education which combines the Malaysian and overseas learning experience and exposures. With the MQA accreditation, MIA graduates may also further their studies in local universities.
