Methodist College Kuala Lumpur and HELP University Joint Agreement

MCKL and HELP University recently signed a joint agreement in which HELP University will be offering bursaries and scholarships exclusively to MCKL students who have completed their pre-university studies and are planning to further their studies at HELP University in 2018.

This joint agreement includes one full scholarship for one MCKL student who achieved top grades in their A Level or AUSMAT.

Additionally, all MCKL students will automatically receive bursaries up to 30% off their tuition fees for the first academic year of studies.

MCKL Offered Exclusive Scholarship from University of Nottingham, Malaysia

University of Nottingham is offering an exclusive scholarship to MCKL students.

This scholarship offers a full tuition fee waiver and it applies to the August 2018 intake for all undergraduate programmes except MPharm (Hons) and BSc (Hons) Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence.

It is opened to Malaysian MCKL students who scored at least 3As in their Cambridge A Level examinations. Selection is based on academic and extra-curricular achievements as well as financial backgrounds.

Closing date for scholarship application is 6 August 2018.

MCKL alumni may also be eligible for scholarships provided by the following universities: Heriot-Watt University Malaysia, INTI International University, HELP University, Monash University, and Manipal International University.

Interested students may obtain an application form from the University Placement Department or the Marketing Office.

MCKL Secure Exclusive Pathway to IT Tralee, Ireland

MCKL has signed an MOU with Institute of Technology Tralee (ITT) to provide an exclusive degree pathway for graduates of the Diploma in Early Childhood Education (DECE).

Under the agreement, DECE graduates of MCKL will be able to gain direct entry into the final year (Year 4) of the Bachelor (Hons) in Early Childhood Education programme at ITT. In addition, ITT is offering financial aid and accommodation fee waivers, making it an affordable and viable option for Diploma graduates wishing to gain an overseas experience as they continue their academic pursuits.

MCKL has an excellent track record with ITT.  Many past DECE graduates such as Nadia Iman, Vivian Tan and Stephanie Cheah, just to mention a few, have secured 1st Class Honours in the ITT degree programme.

Exclusive Bursaries from Monash University Malaysia

On 30th July 2018, MCKL signed a mutual agreement with Monash University Malaysia (MU) by which MU will be awarding THREE Monash Book Prizes worth RM 1,000 each and ONE Medicine Bursary Award worth RM 50,000 exclusively to MCKL students.

The agreement was signed between MCKL’s CEO Ms Moey Yoke Lai and MU’s President & Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Andrew Walker.

"I saw a really strong sense of value-driven education in your college. I'm delighted that we can work with you through formal agreements like this but also through the informal relationships we can develop and anything we can do for you, for your college, for your staff or students, we are always happy to contribute.” (Professor Andrew Walker)

MCKL graduates with high academic performance are eligible to be selected for the Book Prizes or Medicine Bursary Award.

The selection of the recipient of the Medicine Bursary Award will be in accordance with MU’s eligibility and selection criteria available on www.monash.edu.my.

These bursaries apply to programmes with intakes starting between 1 August 2018 and 31 July 2019.

MCKL Students Rise to the Top

In spite of their busy schedule, MCKL A Level students proved yet again their ability to rise to the top. They participated in various national and international competitions that not only tested their knowledge in different fields, but also challenged their critical thinking skills, general knowledge and teamwork capabilities.  

International Chemistry Olympiad 2018 (IChO) – 19 to 29 July 2018 (first image)

Cheong Ruoh Wen represented Malaysia at the IChO held in the Slovakia and Czech Republic and won a bronze medal. She is also the recipient of three 2018 Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards: Top in the World for Chemistry, Top in the World for Mathematics and Best across Four. She will be furthering her studies at University of Cambridge in the field of Natural Sciences – Chemistry.

IMU Science Discovery Challenge – 14 July 2018 (second image)

MCKL students won first and third places.

The champions were Marcus Ang King Hao, Chiew Kai Qi, and Teh Hui Wen.

The third place went to Kim Minseo, Liang Wan Yee, and Aishwarya Baskar.

Ang Zheng Jiet won first place in the tough general knowledge/current issues quiz that attracted over 1000 participants.

MCKL Graduate Wins Inaugural MCKL-UNMC Scholarship

On 25 August 2018, more than 400 MCKL graduands congregated at Wesley Legacy Centre for the MCKL Graduation & Awards Ceremony. 

The graduands comprised students from the Cambridge A Level (CAL), Diploma in Early Childhood Education (DECE), Certified Accounting Technician (CAT), and ACCA programmes.

Professor Deborah Hall, Vice-Provost for Research and Knowledge Exchange of University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) was the guest of honour. During her speech, she  said to the graduands, “You have just received world class education from a leading college in Malaysia, go and do things that make you proud no matter what other people think so that you can truly be your own hero”.

The results of the CAL June 2018 examination saw improvements in almost all subjects and like the previous year, the passing rate was an impressive 100%.  32 students achieved 4A* while 46% of the graduands scored 3 to 4As.

MCKL’s home-grown programme, DECE, feted 20 graduating students with Ling En Yun receiving the Datuk Dr Chiam Heng Keng Award 2018 for best overall performance.

The CAT programme featured 21 graduands while the ACCA programme applauded 13 students who had successfully completed their professional papers. Arianna Yong Qiao-Ru clinched the ACCA Top in Malaysia and the World award for Paper FA1 and Ho Yee Khoon, the top in Malaysia award for Paper MA1.  

The ceremony also saw Kok Hanz receiving the inaugural MCKL-UNMC Scholarship and Edmund Chee, the MCKL-HWUM Scholarship. Both scholarships cover full tuition fees and they are awarded to MCKL pre-university graduates with outstanding academic and co-curricular performance.

UNMC joins the list of established universities who are offering exclusive scholarships to MCKL students. The scholarship offers a full tuition fee waiver for all UNMC undergraduate programmes.
