What research did you do before entering your current institution?
The quality of education is the main factor I explored for choosing an institution followed by the fundamental language used in communication, affordable living costs and convenience of the location. I found that The One Academy met the requirement of my needs from an education fair and was also promoted by my friend, Tu Vidar (currently an art teacher).
What attracted you to pick this institution?
The One Academy makes really great ads compared to other institutions. Artworks which is highlighted are eye-catching and the way they express their design and concept makes me feel that the institution has a very strong understanding and sense in art.
How convenient is your campus?
Of course, the location basically provides anything you wish to get as it is just a stone’s throw away from Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall! The only problem I faced is sometimes finding parking, this can make a student late to class.
How would you describe your course to a 17-year-old?
I am currently a 3rd Year student doing a degree in Interior and Architecture Design. As an interior designer, we deal with the interior space. We need to know the demands, the latest trends, and such to create a design to improve a space. It all begins with your idea which is applied as construction drawings, colour scheme, mood, concept and finally, 3D perspectives. Digital skills are vital for us in this generation, and many digital skills such as Autocad, Sketchup, 3Ds Max, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop is taught to us.
What words of advice would you give to those who are intending to pursue the same course as you?
To be a designer, what we need to do is keep exploring the world. Read as much as you can, pay attention to the surroundings, it helps us to be a better designer. Be confident with your design, stay firm and clear on your design intention.
In your group of friends, what role do you play?
They define me as an ‘information gatherer’ as I always get latest news, gossips or know the current trend before any of them. I do not take initiative to tell anything but will answer when my friends ask me about things that I know well.
Which movie or song title best describes your life?
The King’s Speech. The thing that resonates with me the most is the king’s determination. We face many issues in life. So what do you do? Turn around and avoid them while looking for a different and easier way forward? Well if anything is to be said about this particular lesson, it’s that most often the best way to move in the right direction is not by aversion, but by facing the issue head on. Like our hero in the film does, and by hard work and perseverance he overcomes the issue rather than running from it. And I love the line ‘Perfecting the ordinary is extraordinary’ from that movie. We never realize the tiny things we do unconsciously every single day brings the biggest impact to our lives.
