What is it?
Art is a wide, multidisciplinary field and covers visual arts, and arts and crafts – anything from paintings and calligraphy to pottery and stained glass. You will learn art techniques and sharpen your ability to express yourself in your art.
What will you study?
You will study the making of what is (or is considered to be) expressive or beautiful, especially focusing on the design process, using a variety of materials.
During the course, you will be introduced to the numerous styles (eg art deco, art nouveau, etc). The main part of the curriculum is the learning of design methodologies, and the advancement of planning skills and practical abilities at all levels – from analysis to conception and execution.
Basic visual elements (shapes, space, form, etc) of art and design; basic function and relationship of art and design elements; introduction to visual perception and appreciation.
Typical course duration
Courses range from nine months for a certificate to three to four years for a degree.
There are no specific prerequisite subjects for this course. Some institutions may require a design or portfolio review.
What do graduates do?
Art and design graduates can work for advertising agencies, design houses, art galleries and museums or in the design department of various industries. Many are self-employed and do freelance work as well.
